Osbourn Scholarship
On October 11, 2006, Catholic Charities Migration & Refugee Services (MRS) Program was informed of a special education scholarship opportunity for its many refugees and immigrants that it helps each year. Ms. Alice Bridges, the Vice President of Jewish Hospital and St. Mary’s Foundation, announced that she had created a $1,000.00 scholarship in honor of her parents, Jeff and Phyllis Osbourn. Both Mr. and Mrs. Osbourn have been long time volunteers with the Catholic Charities Migration & Refugee Services Program. The two of them have served here such as “mentors” (special friends), as active members on the Community Development Council (CDC), as well as inspirational parishioners at their church, Transfiguration of our Lord in Goshen, Kentucky, in getting others to donate furniture, hygiene items, and various other important household goods to newly arriving refugee clients.
The Osbourn’s time and talent with our agency had been in existence for nearly 20 years. Unfortunately, Jeff Osbourn passed away in October 2005 and to ensure that his and Phyllis Osbourn’s legacy lives on with our program, this special education loan was set up. The scholarship is to be made available to an immigrant or refugee pursuing a college degree from an accredited institution in nursing or an allied health care profession.
