Get Involved

Thanks for your interest in getting involved with the Bakhita Empowerment Initiative, which provides direct assistance and case management to victims of human trafficking. See below to learn how you can help.

Donate Time

This program of Catholic Charities works to combat human trafficking. Confidentiality of survivors limits volunteer opportunities. Each year this program accepts a handful of practicum students pursing a social work, criminal justice, or related field. Visit the employment & internship page to view current opportunities.

  • Current Volunteer Opportunity – My Life My Choice Facilitator –  My Life My Choice is a ten-session, nationally-acclaimed prevention and support group curriculum that is used to educate and empower adolescent girls ages 11-18.
  • ProBono Services – In order to provide comprehensive services to all human trafficking survivors we rely on community partners for housing, healthcare and mental and legal services. If you are interested in offering your services please contact Marissa Castellanos at

For more information on how to get started, visit Catholic Charities’ volunteer page, where you can register for a volunteer orientation and fill out a volunteer application. If you have additional questions, contact our volunteer coordinator at 502-637-9786.
