Indigent Burial Services
Dignity for every life. Compassion for every farewell.
No one should leave this world without being honored and remembered. Our burial program ensures that individuals in Jefferson County who lack resources or family support receive a dignified service surrounded by caring community members.

REst with Reverence.
Rest with reverence
For those experiencing financial hardship, we provide burial or cremation options. Every person is laid to rest with reverence, whether that be through burial or cremation when authorized by next-of-kin. Each service is accompanied by pallbearers and prayer, affirming that every life has meaning.
Since 2006, local Catholic high schools, universities, and alumni associations have served faithfully through the St. Joseph of Arimathea Society. Over ten groups remain active, bearing witness to the truth: “Our dead are never dead to us until we have forgotten them.” —George Eliot

Honoring all faiths
As the indigent burial program for Jefferson County, we respect all religions and traditions. We work to honor each person’s customs, collaborating with Christian churches, as well as Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and other faith communities, ensuring every life is remembered with dignity.
This one-of-a-kind ministry is made possible through the partnership of Catholic Charities of Louisville, Louisville Metro Parks, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Owen Funeral Home, the St. Joseph of Arimathea Society, and Louisville Metro Council.
