March 6: WRITE CARDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT FOR ELDERLY
Gather family and friends to make hand-written notes of encouragement for the elderly and others living in long-term care facilities in our area. Let them know that they are appreciated, respected, and not forgotten. Deliver them before April 7th to our offices at 435 E. Broadway and our Long-Term Care Ombudsman team will deliver them to residents during Holy Week. “You can do it!

March 9: 1st SUNDAY IN LENT
KICK-OFF A CANNED FOOD DRIVE
Our food pantries are always in need of non-perishable food items, especially protein like tuna and peanut butter. Setting up a FOOD DRIVE during Lent is a simple way to nourish the hungry. Contact Peyton Rhea if you need a CCL collection box or to schedule a drop-off.
March 8: ST. PAT’S DAY PARADE!
CCL Float 3:00 – 5:00 pm
Walk with the Catholic Charities’ float to raise awareness of our mission. Family and friends are invited — just wear something green! Meet us in the staging area by 2:30pm on Broadway near Baxter. March 10: PRACTICE ENGLISH WITH AN ESL STUDENT

Our “English as a Second Language” (ESL) students are adults looking to improve their English skills to become self-sufficient in America. Practice makes perfect, so contact Debbie Belt to schedule time to sit with them and practice simple conversation. No training required. Practice sessions are on Monday through Thursday at various times during or after Lent.
March 11: ATTEND “CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING 101”
5:30 – 6:30 pm @CCL
The Seven Themes of Catholic Social Teaching guide our work, as well as the way Catholics participate in society. REGISTER HERE. This FREE interactive session walks through each of the seven themes and encourages open discussion on each.
March 12: SERVE CLIENTS at FJJ FOOD PANTRY

Help serve clients at the Father Jack Jones Food Pantry (FJJ) each Wednesday and Thursday between 10 am – 12 pm. The pantry is located at 2914 S. Third Street, 40208, near Churchill Downs. Email Debbie Belt to sign up. Did you know that zip area 40208 has a 62% child poverty rate, one of the highest in the state of Kentucky?
March 14: SET UP FISH FRY TIP JAR FOR CCL
Encourage vendors at your parish Fish Fry to put out a special TIP JAR to support the programs at Catholic Charities that feed the hungry and lift up those in need. CLICK HERE to download a graphic to stick on the jar!

March 22: VISIT AN ELDERLY RELATIVE OR FRIEND
Support the dignity and mental health of family or friends who may be suffering from anxiety and loneliness. If you would like to become a “Friendly Visitor,” contact Stephen King to learn more about CCL’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman program.
March 23: HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT OPEN HOUSE

High School students are invited to visit the Catholic Charities Center to learn more about the service opportunities we provide, the impact students can have on the community. March 24: WRITE “NOTES OF AFFIRMATION” TO TRAFFICKING SURVIVORS
Survivors of human trafficking are in special need of positive affirmation and dignity-affirming words of encouragement as they work to reclaim their lives. Gather family and friends to make HAND-WRITTEN NOTES OF AFFIRMATION. Let them know they are supported, valued, and have the resilience to keep moving forward. Deliver them before April 14th to our offices at 435 E. Broadway and our Bakhita Empowerment Initiative team will deliver them to clients during Holy Week. “Yes, you have what it takes to do this.”
March 27: ATTEND INDIGENT BURIAL
10am, 12 Noon, 2pm
Attend an Indigent Burial service at Meadow View Cemetery to help lay to rest with dignity those without financial resources or families by their side. CLICK HERE for questions and to confirm times. Services are held every Thursday at 10am, 12pm and 2pm (may vary) and includes a prayer service.

April 6: EXPAND YOUR EUCHARISTIC HORIZONS
While the Mass is universal, parishes have their own style, histories, languages and even personalities. This Lenten season, experience more of the local church! Worship with Hispanic and Latino parishioners. CLICK HERE for Mass times at St. Joseph, St. Rita and other churches offering Spanish language Masses. Visit the Cathedral of The Assumption downtown, the seat of the archbishop. Visit one of the predominantly African-American parishes in west Louisville such as St. Augustine, Christ the King, or St. Martin de Porres. Make a pilgrimage to Bardstown, located in Kentucky’s Holy Land. Participate in a Latin Mass at The Shrine of St. Martin of Tours. As the universal church, you’ll feel right at home wherever you go!
