Rene Maxwell grew up poor in Portland, running the streets barefoot with her five brothers and sisters. Because their mom was bedridden with polio and her dad absent, the family often had nothing, not even toothpaste. “We were wild,” she says. “We were in crisis.” But at Sister Visitor Center, Rene “felt a love like I had never felt before.” Watch Rene’s story here.

Claude came to America from a refugee camp in Rwanda in September 2019 and in December 2020 was named Metro Louisville EMS Rookie of the Year. Today Claude is grateful to “the whole Catholic Charities agency” and happy to be among those who “give hope and protect this community.” Watch Claude’s inspiring story here.

When Pete Glauber’s beloved wife Mary Jane became terminally ill early in the pandemic, our team of advocates worked with her nursing home to get Pete and their adult children in to be with her in the days before her death. “It was so important that we be there,” he said. “I don’t know what we would have done without your help.”
