June 2025 Kick-Off Sessions
The Bakhita Empowerment Initiative will host FREE training sessions to increase professionals’ basic understanding of best practices and guiding principles in
providing services to victims and survivors of human trafficking. Topics covered include, why human trafficking is a complex topic, ways to respond, and the various scenarios in which it occurs, including sex, labor and commercial exploitation of children.

These sessions are offered FREE by Bakhita’s Human Trafficking Training Institute, a service of Catholic Charities designed to build professionals capacity to identify human trafficking and access services for survivors.

The Bakhita Empowerment Initiative is offering trainings focused on human trafficking in relation to healthcare, education, service provision, victim services, and other disciplines. The Bakhita Empowerment Initiative can also work with your agency to tailor training with specific information needed. These trainings will vary in length (1-2 hours, half- day, and full day) depending on the topic and need of the organization. Training can be offered in-person or virtual. Any training can be modified to fit an agency’s exact needs.

Amy Nace-DeGonda Bio:
Amy Nace-DeGonda has her undergraduate degree in Sociology from the University of Louisville. Amy has been working in social services since 2002. She works with the Bakhita Empowerment Initiative at Catholic Charities of Louisville as the Program Director, where she provides educational workshops and trainings on human trafficking, assists in development of a statewide anti-trafficking coalition, provides guidance and supervision to direct service workers, assists with implementation and facilitation of prevention education groups with youth, and works directly with identified victims of human trafficking throughout Kentucky. She works closely with social service providers, health care workers, law enforcement, government agencies, and others to ensure that human trafficking is being identified in our communities and that the survivors are provided with the resources they need to rebuild their lives. Amy provides training on human trafficking to churches, social service agencies, government agencies, hospitals, volunteers, national conferences and others. She worked on the HOPE Campaign where she created materials for training professionals as well as volunteers.
Amy is the past co-chair of the Statewide Human Trafficking Task Force, Nelson County Task Force and Louisville Human Trafficking Task Force and assisted in creating a coalition of victim service providers in the Louisville Metro area. She is the co-chair. and a member of the Southeastern Region Human Trafficking Advisory Board, that was started by the HHS, which consists of representatives of 7 states in the southeastern region. As part of her work with the Southeastern Region Advisory Board. Amy assisted in authoring the Guiding Principles which has been published by HHS. Amy is a current member of the Human Trafficking Collective Victim Services Advisory Board. Amy has received Human Trafficking Prevention and Intervention certification through Florida State University.
