Bridging the Gap

The Bridging the Gap Medical Interpreter Training prepares individuals to become successful medical interpreters. The language-neutral course, taught in English, is open to speakers of all languages. Prior experience is the medical and/or interpreting fields is helpful but not requires. Students will learn the necessary skills to become a qualified medial interpreter by participating in group activities , gaining practice interpreting from day-one onward, and through the instruction and insight of our experience trainers.

Participants of our 40-hour training will learn: 

  • Interpreter roles
  • National codes of ethics
  • Interpreting skills practice
  • Culture and its impact on interpreting
  • Introduction to medical terminology

Pricing includes: 

  • 40 hours of training, which meets the national medical interpreter certification prerequisite for both the CCHI and the NBCMI
  • Textbook, class materials, and exam
  • Four lunches (Saturdays and Sundays)
  • Oral language proficiency exam by TIN (in English and one (1) other language
  • Signed and individually numbered Certificate of Completion

Community Interpreter

The Community Interpreter® is a program developed by Cross Cultural Communications, LLC and is very similar to Bridging the Gap®.  It is a comprehensive 40-hour certificate program that provides the prerequisite for national medical interpreting qualification.

This course covers:

  • The role of an interpreter
  • Code of ethics
  • Interpreting skills
  • Cultural considerations
  • Preparation for medical, educational & social service settings

Pricing includes:

  • 40 hours of training, which meets the national medical interpreter certification prerequisite for both the CCHI and the NBCMI
  • Textbook & class materials
  • Four (4) meals (lunch served on Saturdays and Sundays)
  • Oral language proficiency exam by TIN (in English and one (1) other language)

This 2-day training will offer you a detailed learning experience, exploring many aspects of the American legal system.  Primary focus will be on terminology, and tips to help you advocate for your client to insure their understanding.

The day is packed with interactive activities that focus on Greek and Latin roots and affixes, medical specialties, six body systems (with some anatomy and physiology), diseases and disorders, symptoms, medical abbreviations and more. The session includes a 136-page published handbook (retail: $40) contains terms and activities;   The workshop and handbook were designed for interpreters who speak any language.
