The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
~Psalm 34:18

In the wake of the deadly storms that tore across western Kentucky this weekend, we lift our hearts to the Lord in prayer for every person who has been affected, who is grappling with great loss and sorrow, who is broken hearted and crushed in spirit.

So many have reached out to us for guidance on how to help. Thank you for your heart to serve. We too feel the pressure to jump in and help, but we want to provide meaningful support when the affected communities are ready for the help we can offer. Here in Kentucky as in so many other places in recent years – from hurricanes in Louisiana to wildfires in California – Catholic Charities will be providing disaster relief long after the news crews have departed.

Here’s what is happening right now:

•Archbishop Kurtz is in contact with Bishop Medley of the Diocese of Owensboro to discern how best to assist. Archbishop Kurtz is connecting with pastors about offering collections in the coming week to support the Diocese of Owensboro.
•Lisa has reached out to her counterpart at Catholic Charities Owensboro to learn how we can support their efforts.

•Our staff has been reaching out to Archdiocesan parishes in western Kentucky to offer assistance when needed.

As we learn more, we will quickly communicate it with you. If you feel compelled to respond immediately, please consider donating to:

Governor Andy Beshear’s Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund https://secure.kentucky.gov/formservices/Finance/WKYRelief

Thank you, again, for your heart of compassion.
