My last best day was the March graduation for Common Table. During the course of class, we often hear about how excited students to learn the new material, participate in cooking challenges, and get try new techniques in the kitchen. What often doesn’t come out during the program is the impact outside of class. During graduation we ask students to say something about what the class meant to them, or what impact it has had. This is always an emotional moment for everyone in the room. In March, one student said the program had changed her life, because she was really struggling, and it helped her immensely. Another graduate stated that he was finally doing something for himself, after not doing anything for himself in his adult life. These moments really validate the work that we are doing, and that it goes so much deeper than the job skills they are learning in class.
