Obituary for Ed Flege
Edward J. “Ed” Flege died suddenly on January 22, 2023, due to heart complications. He was born in Covington, Kentucky, on March 13, 1948, to Charles and Anna Flege. His parents and older brother Charles “Skip” Flege preceded him in death. Among his many accomplishments, Ed started the Upward Bound program at Morehead State University. He was a founding member of MSU’s chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and coach of the state champion women’s softball team. He managed the construction of several subdivisions for Henry Fisher Homes in Northern Kentucky and later, oversaw the construction of radio stations and studios across the country for Clear Channel Broadcasting during his years with Luckett & Farley Architecture and Engineering. Ed leaves behind his wife of 34 years, the former Mary Kay Hall of Louisville, whom he met while both were living in Anchorage, Alaska. In addition to his twin nieces Sharon Reffitt (Scott) and Sheila Compton (Dave), Ed leaves a big, extended family of in-laws, cousins and friends who will miss his quiet charm, quick wit and wisdom. A memorial service will be held at 4 PM on Sunday, January 29 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, Louisville, Kentucky with visitation from 2 PM until the memorial service begins. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the University of Louisville Women’s Basketball program, of which Ed was a loyal fan, or to the charity closest to your heart.
