Lisa announced at the all-staff meeting last Friday that Catholic Charities has scrapped plans to build at its current location at Fourth and Heywood Streets and instead purchase a commercial building at 535 E. Broadway.
The building, now serving as an operations center for a local bank, will require come modifications but already boasts ample office space, state-of-the-art security systems, reliable high-speed internet, and an outstanding kitchen area for staff.
Lisa said leadership decided to change plans after legal delays and the pandemic pushed costs for construction from $7.5 million in 2019 to nearly $18 million in 2022. We will be able to purchase the building with funds we already have raised with no need for further fund-raising.
Lisa said Catholic Charities should be in the building by this time next year.
Those of you who have lived in Louisville for many years will remember this site as the old AAA building. Perhaps you picked up your last Trip-Tik there!
