Refugee Simulations
Students will learn what it takes to get from a refugee camp or foreign country to the United States when they participate in refugee simulations. In the day-long exercise they actually experience the excitement, frustration, bureaucracy, hardships and joy of being approved to migrate to the U.S. This popular experience requires school support and volunteers. It is aimed at students in grades 7 and up.

Youth Teen Board
We’re inviting a board made up of a nominated junior and senior from each high school to meet monthly with Catholic Charities. Together we will find meaningful ways to incorporate opportunities with our outreach programs into schools’ clubs, volunteer opportunities, and social action.
For more information, contact Peyton Rhea.
Catholic Social Teaching
Every outreach of Catholic Charities is rooted in Catholic Social Teaching. We’re so pleased to be included in your curriculum and visit classes to share how CST is lived out at Catholic Charities of Louisville every day through programs that range from refugee resettlement to urban gardening and from human trafficking to job training.
For more information, contact Fr. John Schwartzlose.

Speakers & Presentations
Our team members are available to speak to your classes on a terrific variety of subjects that are relevant, compelling, and captivating. We have far more topics than we can list here, but some are entering a new country as a refugee, myths surrounding human trafficking, ministry in west Louisville, how food insecurity affects immigrants, staying safe in relationships, and urban gardening.
For more information, contact Susan Smith.
Adopt a Program
Your classes can adopt one of our programs for a focused learning experience that, over the course of a semester or a school year, will include guest lecturers, hands-on activities, and opportunities to contribute to the program with volunteer opportunities. Adopt a program can be adapted for classes of any age.

Volunteering
Looking for a place to gain service hours for your students? We have volunteer opportunities for both individuals and small groups, as well as some opportunities for mentoring. Click the link below to see all current volunteer opportunities. Please note that some assignments require a background check and safe environment training.
For more information, contact cclvolunteer@archlou.org.

CRS Rice Bowl
“Each Lent, Catholic families across the country unite to put their faith into action through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Through CRS Rice Bowl, families learn about how our sisters and brothers across the globe overcome hardships like hunger and malnutrition, and how through Lenten alms, we have the power to make the world a better place for all.” – crs.org
Several weeks before Lent, we host a Rice Bowl luncheon for schools in the archdiocese to learn about Rice Bowl and encourage them to take the message back to their schools to create an almsgiving program for Lent. Check back, registration will open in December.
For more information, contact Peyton Rhea.
Donation Rotation
If your school would like regularly contribute to our work through donation drives, please consider being part of our donation rotation. Here you can plan ahead to collect canned goods for our food pantries every other month, for example, or to collect for specific campaigns like Christmas or back to school, all on a schedule that you’ve set with us.
For more information, contact Peyton Rhea.

Box Lunches for Meetings
Need something new to spice up professional development lunches or staff parties? Consider Common Table, our culinary arts job training program that provides catering as a way to cover student tuition. The menu features unusually robust box lunches of hearty sandwiches or salads, home baked desserts, and Miss Vickie’s chips. Or, if you choose, we can also provide soup and bread for the staff.
Soup Subscription
Your school can join our six-week subscription of homemade soups and artisanal breads served up by students in our Common Table program. If you have 10+ subscribers, we will deliver to your office for free. Your team will love this meal with a mission … and not having to cook! It can also be a meaningful and unique holiday or appreciation gifts for employees.

Humanitarian Need
There is always an opportunity to contribute to meeting humanitarian need, whether it is in Kentucky or in another country. When the need arises, we can help you be sure of what is needed and connect you with the right organization, including Catholic Charities USA and Catholic Relief Services.
To assist with the flooding in eastern Kentucky, contact Catholic Charities of Lexington.
Indigent Burial
Students gain empathy and valuable insight into the circumstances of others when they serve as pallbearers, readers, and even vocalists at indigent burial services. Every week, Catholic Charities provides full burial services for those who die without the family or resources to provide them.
For more information, contact Matthew Whisman.
