Mission

Sister Visitor Center provides food, emergency financial aid for rent and utilities, help gaining access to benefits like food stamps, and increasing case management to address the systemic factors perpetuating poverty for residents in West Louisville.

Serving the community without interruption since 1969, the heart of the Sister Visitor Center lies in the command of Christ to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and shelter the homeless.

Choice Food Pantry

Our Choice Food Pantry functions like a micro grocery store where clients shop for items their families need and want, providing clients increased dignity and empowerment. The pantry stocks canned and box staples, fresh produce, frozen meats, personal hygiene items, and home goods, and offers personal shoppers, cooking demonstrations, and recipes to encourage healthier nutrition..

Shoppers:

  • Can visit once a month for their big shopping day, and once a week for breads and fresh produce;
  • DO NOT need an appointment;
  • DO need to show ID and proof of address;
  • Can shop for someone else. You must have your ID, their ID and a signed proxy form giving you permission to pick up their food order. Proxy forms are available in the Pantry.

Emergency Financial Aid

We help people who are about to be disconnected by LG&E and Louisville Water Company receive a 30-day extension when SVC pledges the amount the companies say is needed to prevent disconnection. If the amount is more than we can cover, clients must make a partial payment before we can make a pledge.

Similarly, we help people who are in danger of losing their housing to get a 30-day extension when we pledge one month’s rent.

We will meet with you weekly, every other week, or monthly to identify your strengths and weaknesses and then set personal goals aimed at building self-sufficiency. We’ll work with you and connect you with others, too, to meet your goals
