Family Support Services has picked up a new name. It’s now Community Support Services to more accurately reflect the breadth of its outreach.
Community Support Services continues to nurture healthy families with Mother-Infant Care classes for expectant moms, Mama Matters support groups for moms of young children, and Arts in Play classes where moms and children can dance, sing, and play together. (Cydnei Dean)
Community Support Services also helps meet essential needs of neighbors around our 2911 location with the Father Jack Jones Food Pantry. Operating for almost a year now, the food pantry provides 2,100 pounds of food to more than 50 people every week. (Deacon Andy Heinsohn)
Community Support Services also has two team members located at Sister Visitor Center, where they help access rapid rehousing for survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. This outreach is in collaboration with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. (Tytania Simmonds-Clemons and Kelly Weaver)
And now, Community Support Services includes the Indigent Burial Program, providing burial to those who die without the family or resources to do so. All individuals who live and pass away in Jefferson County in financial duress are potentially eligible. The Indigent Burial Program is provided in partnership among Catholic Charities of Louisville, Louisville Metro Parks, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, Owen Funeral Home, the St. Joseph of Arimathea Society, and Louisville Metro Council. So, to answer the original question, what’s in a name? A lot. A whole lot.
