Common Table honors most recent graduates

Common Table celebrated it latest graduates with a reception and dinner Friday, December 2. The graduates plan and prepare their own meal, which was beef ribs, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and cornbread with mashed potato piping. Dessert was chocolate or raspberry trifle. Pre-dinner appetizers included honey barbecue chicken skewers, mozzarella balls and spinach skewers, cupcakes and strawberries, and–amazingly–deep friend deviled eggs. They. Were. Amazing.

Bakhita launches class for recent arrivals to U.S.

Bakhita Empowerment Initiative recently offered its first human trafficking prevention class for young women who are new arrivals to the U.S., and for coordinator Tamar Israel, it was a dream come true. “This population is so at risk because of the challenges they face while being new to America,” Tamar explains. “I sat in trainings and learned how at-risk they are but felt unable to reach them.”
