A $100,000 grant from Metro United Way to Catholic Charities this week put us over the $1 million mark in grants earned in fiscal year 2022. As far as we can tell, this is the most grant money ever awarded to Catholic Charities in one year. Congratulations and a hearty thank you to everyone who has contributed to the many, many applications submitted this year. Great job!
Amy Nace-DeGonda and Marissa Castellanos provided a full day Train the Trainer “Human Trafficking 101: An Overview” to staff at Family and Children’s Place, the local children’s advocacy center. Ten staff participated in the training, where we discussed definitions and terminology, vulnerable populations, Kentucky state law, Kentucky-specific data, and specialized services. Know someone who needs some help with finding employment? Encourage them to attend the next information session at Common Table to learn about our 8-week culinary arts training program. Not only will participants pick up skills, they will be eligible to earn 8 credit hours from Jefferson Community Technical College, continue on to other apprenticeships, or get help finding a job.

Abdul is a young man who was a supervisor at a truck company in Afghanistan, where he also helped Americans, checking deliveries and guarding land and equipment. He and his family received threats in the past but when threats and danger escalated, he was evacuated to the United States last August and resettled to Louisville in September.
